Budapest

I was delighted to attend a FAM trip to Hungary in July, hosted by the Lumirani Collection, and The Botaniq Collection.

We stayed in three hotels and experienced the best of the city of Budapest.

Budapest is an absolutely beautiful city, easy to navigate on foot, and incredibly clean and inviting. The architecture is remarkably well-preserved, and many buildings are being carefully restored after the damage suffered during WWII. We visited during 30-degree weather, which was hot, but the constant breeze, likely from the river, made it comfortable. I imagine the city would be just as enchanting on a crisp December day—I've also heard they have fantastic Christmas markets!

One highlight of our trip was a fast, vintage speed boat ride down the Danube, complete with a glass of champagne - definitely the best way to take in the views! We also enjoyed a walking tour around the castle and a visit to the Opera House, which included a brief but magical performance. The Opera House is a must-see, and I can easily arrange a hotel package with tickets to a performance for anyone interested.

When I arrived at the airport, I was whisked away, from the terminal door no less, by Botaniq Collection’s Landrover Defender and brought to their Castle.

The castle has just 19 rooms which means you are able to walk around acting like you are the only one there.  It is absolutely beautiful; in terms of both the original 1889 architecture and the internal, very sympathetic, refurbishment.

The cost is really reasonable, especially for the very high service level; I have never experienced so much at this price point.

Being just 19 rooms, it is also the perfect place for a buyout; perhaps for a stag party (they can arrange shooting, riding, hunting, off-roading, and they of course have a cigar room!), or a large family get together, or a wedding.

I cannot fail to mention the food and drink here… the bar is something else, and the Michelin recommended ‘Clarisse’ is spectacular both in terms of the food, and its Hungarian art collection.

The following day, we were off to Verno House, Botaniq’s sister property in the city centre. Here we were met with another night of wonderful service, beautifully decorated rooms and spectacular food. The hotel is boutique, again feeling like a home from home in many ways. It is playful and discerning all at the same time.

The food at Flava was excellent - modern and fun and needless to say, delicious. Plus, the waiter speaks seven languages!

These two hotels work really well together - for instance, two nights in each; fairytale castle in the countryside, and a fun or cultured city break. Do book through me for upgrades such as the landrover transfers, or. a package including a box at the opera.

See next post for the 3rd hotel…
